The Coastal Zone & Waterways Management Section has both an operational and a strategic function within the Municipality as follows:
- Implement principles and procedures of Integrated Coastal Zone Management to Dubai coastal zone and waterways
- Formulate legislations and regulations for effective and productive management of Dubai coast
- Regulate the activities within the Coastal Zone by issuing permits
- Deploy state of art measuring and monitoring techniques to construct better understanding of the coastal zone dynamics
- Create an intensive marine database for morphodynamic, hydrodynamic and metrological data
- Employ mathematical modeling studies to predict coastal changes
- Execute well designed coastal protection solutions to mitigate coastal erosion problems
